Dog Socialiser

The Role

Our dogs need regular daily walking and socialising with people and other dogs to prepare them for adoption and it is really important that they are kept as happy as possible to avoid them becoming distressed. Although staff walk dogs too, we rely heavily on help from our committed volunteers to help keep the dogs stimulated and healthy in body and mind.

As a volunteer, you would join the rota and have regular walking times which you would agree with our staff, but we can be flexible with you.

We would expect you to take out at least 4 dogs and in the half hour or so that each dog is out of its kennel, it could be walked, groomed or simply sat with.

If you are prepared for the 6 month minimum commitment and are suitable, please send in your application form and we will invite you to complete some online health and safety paperwork. We will then book a date for you to complete some hands-on training sessions with our staff and experienced dog socialisers. Then you will be able to work with the dogs independently.

Skills

You must be able to communicate effectively with people and accurate completion of documents is essential. A friendly, confident approach is also desirable as is experience of having worked with dogs or owning them.

Hours

Dog socialisers must be able to commit at least 5 to 6 hours a week (probably in one or two visits) whatever the weather!

We are currently looking for dog socialisers daily between 10am-1pm or 12pm-3pm and weekends. In the time slot of 3 hours at each visit.

Who

If you are thinking of applying to be a volunteer dog socialiser, you would need to be 21 or over and relatively fit. This is a great role for those who enjoy meeting new people whilst volunteering to help animals.
