Customer Service Support

The Role

The reception desk is based at our animal shelter and our full time staff are often very busy dealing with members of the public. Therefore a volunteer is required to answer the phone and help with basic admin work.

The Customer Service Support role will involve:

  • Answering the phone in a polite, courteous manner.
  • Directing the call to the appropriate person or dealing with the initial enquiry themselves (for which training will be given).
  • Occasional basic admin work.
  • Assisting with the staff needs.

Please send in your application form and we will invite you to complete some online health and safety paperwork. We will then book a date for you to complete some hands on training sessions with our staff and experienced admin/ telephonist volunteers. Then you will be able to work with the reception team independently.

Skills

You will need to be used to dealing with people on the phone in a calm, polite and sensible manner, as the nature of our organisation means that some callers could be upset, impatient and occasionally abusive, therefore you will have to be able to defuse the situation. Training will be hands-on experience, so the ability to grasp information quickly will be beneficial.

Who

If you are thinking of applying to be a volunteer customer service support you would need to be 21 or over. This is a great role for those who have a good telephone manner and who enjoy meeting new people whilst volunteering to help animals.

Hours

Once you are trained, customer service support are welcome to work in reception every day of the week between 10.30am and 4.30pm. We would prefer a minimum of 3.5 hours per visit.
